The Hepplewhite Piano Trio was formed in 2009 by students at the Birmingham Conservatoire. The group has built success very quickly, being invited within months of forming to play at the Purcell Room, London alongside the Schubert Ensemble and the Lawson Piano Trio. In February 2010 they won the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Competition, and soon after were awarded the Derek Young Memorial Award from the Birmingham Chamber Music Society. They also won a place in the finals of the Ludlow Concerto Prize playing the Martinu Triple Concerto, and were the first chamber group to win the Birmingham Symphony Hall Prize. The trio have recently performed for the Birmingham Chamber Music Society, have given a recital at the Warwick Arts Centre and in October 2011 gave an evening concert at the Purcell Room, Southbank Centre, London. They have engagements to make 2 recordings in 2012 (one in front of a live audience at the CBSO Centre) and have been booked by several orchestras to perform the Martinu Triple Concerto and the Beethoven Triple Concerto. The trio will also be premiering a new work written for them by Ivor McGregor in 2013. They have been invited to perform for many chamber music societies and concert series in the next year, including a concert in Birmingham Town Hall on the 3rd February. They have also been awarded a Junior Fellowship at the Birmingham Conservatoire for 2011/12
