LETO ENSEMBLE: Pavel Timofejevsky (piano) Klio Blonz (flute) Shelley Levy (clarinet)
This concert is organised by St John's 'Musician in Residence' Pavel Timofejevsky and features unjustly unacclaimed composers. Schulhoff was a Czech Jew who died in a Nazi concentration camp. His duet combines the insouciant air of "Les six" with a love of Czech folk music. Frenchman Emmanuel was one of the first composers to fuse Asian, Mid Eastern and Western harmonies. Carmichael (who will attend) is an Australian unafraid of a good tune and Kubo a prize winning Japanese composer.
