Music Chamber

Ian Stewart is a professional musician, composer and arranger based in London. He grew up in Scotland and Malta, and has a passion for Mediterranean music and culture. A classically trained pianist, Ian also played trombone in the Scottish Youth Brass Band and the San Gejtanu Band in Malta. He has performed on electric keyboards, laptop, turntables, accordion and bass guitar - so not surprisingly he has worked and composed in most styles of music, including, classical, electronica, new wave and jazz. His compositions have been broadcast on radio, performed in classical concerts, and used in television programmes. Classical saxophone compositions have been played by Kyle Horch, Carole Sutherland, Saxploitation and John Harle with the Brodski Quartet. Recent works have been influenced by late 1960’s & early 1970’s psychedelic music. His composition Purple Gong Orange Tam-tam was performed at one of the inaugural concerts at the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music, Long Beach California. Ian’s arrangements of Chick Corea’s Children’s Songs have been broadcast by John Harle on BBC Wales Music Now and Radio 3, and he was string arranger on the ‘Love’ album released by Zomba Production Music. His electronica and rock compositions have been released by three music library companies. Ian has always had a passion for unusual instruments and ensembles resulting in works for 12 alto saxophones, 4 tubas, saxophone and scratch turntables, electric guitar, and several pieces for instruments and laptop.
